Certificate of Global Achievement

Schools can opt to participate in the China New Horizons Certificate of Global Achievement. This certificate has been developed in association with Melbourne University. It can be awarded at Gold, Silver and Bronze standards, is based upon assessment throughout the programme and is designed to recognise student success.

Assessment is based on:

  • Breadth – the student must participate in a number of modules from all domains.
  • Depth – their research question must be focused on one or two domains.
  • Inquiry – the student should apply critical thinking and inquiry to issues that have emerged during their experience on the programme
  • Question – students need to formulate a focused research question that is
    • based on their experiences in the programme
    • makes connections to local or global issues
    • requires research
Portfolio
The certificate also takes into consideration the overall experience and progress of the students as evidenced by their personal portfolio. The portfolio includes reflective writing, photography, observations, critical questions and sketches.

To receive the award students must have studied a range of domains and a minimum number of modules (see table).

Assessment of the award is based in set criteria (available on request)

Gold – The student displays exceptional awareness, a high level of competence and sophistication through critical reflection and inquiry and presents findings which enhance learning and demonstrate prominent global awareness. In addition, the student shows considerable personal growth and respect for others.

Silver – The student displays strong awareness, appropriate critical reflection and inquiry-based skills and presents findings which show a good understanding of global awareness.

Bronze – The student displays a good awareness, shows critical reflection and inquiry skills most of the time and presents findings which show an understanding of global awareness. Certification will be useful to students wanting to demonstrate global awareness, exhibit familiarity with China, and add educational experiences to their personal CV.
